Gastritis in animals: when your pet's stomach needs attention!

What is gastritis and why does it occur?
Gastritis in animals is a non–specific disease, meaning it can be caused by a wide range of factors. The main function of the stomach is to digest food with the help of gastric juice containing hydrochloric acid and enzymes. When the gastric mucosa becomes inflamed, its protective functions are disrupted, leading to pain, discomfort, and digestive disorders.

The main causes of gastritis in animals:
Eating disorders:
Substandard food: Spoiled, expired, or food that does not meet the specific needs may cause irritation of the mucous membrane. Overfeed or an abrupt change in diet: The animal's body may not be able to cope with a sudden change in its usual diet. Eating inedible objects: Bones, plastic, thread, toys – all this can damage the gastric mucosa. The use of toxic substances: Poisonous plants, household chemicals, medicines left unattended.
Infectious agents:
Bacterial infections: For example, Helicobacter pylori (although it is less common in animals than in humans). Viral infections: Parvovirus enteritis, carnivorous plague, and others. Parasitic infestations: Worms can cause irritation and inflammation. Chronic diseases: Kidney and liver diseases: These organs play an important role in the elimination of toxins, and their dysfunction can lead to the accumulation of harmful substances in the body, including the stomach.
Pancreatitis:
Inflammation of the pancreas is often accompanied by gastritis. Allergies and food intolerances: Reactions to certain feed components.
